FASCICULARIA BICOLOR (Bromeliaceae) HP 18-24 in (6 seeds)
An absolutely stunning member of the pineapple family which will stand hard frost as long as it is planted in perfect drainage, e.g. in a wall or bank. Forms a rosette of narrow, prickly leaves. In mid-summer, bright, kingfisher blue flowers appear in a central rosette. At the same time the leaf bases turn bright red forming an incredible colour combination. I have seen spectacular colonies of this plant high on the freezing Chilean volcanoes.
Sowing Instructions
Cover thinly with compost or grit.
Keep moist in a cool, covered, light spot outside. Grow on individual seedlings in 3 inch pots.
Plant out in perfect drainage, e.g. a bank or wall. Very slow to germinate, may be next year.
