KNIPHOFIA CAULESCENS (Asphodelaceae) HP 3 ft
One of the stars of the autumn garden. Only long after all other pokers have gone to seed does this dazzling peformer reveals its flower buds, which in September open to massive heads of red, changing to greenish-lemon above very broad grey leaves. As it ages, its elephant-trunk-like stems lie on the ground and root. "Very valuable and perhaps the only truly hardy large poker" (G.S.T.).
Sowing Instructions
Cover with compost or grit 5mm deep.
